ลองหลับตา แล้วนึกภาพตามนะครับ สมมติคนรักสมัยวัยรุ่นของคุณเดินทางจากบ้านเกิดไปอยู่เมืองนอก ทิ้งคุณไปสิบปีก่อนจะกลับมาในฐานะดารา นักร้องชื่อดังที่ใคร ๆ ต่างก็ชื่นชม เหมือนณเดชน์ หรืออั้ม พัชราภา คุณจะกล้าพอจะไปพบหน้าเขาไหม? 

เนื้อเพลง When We Were Young ของอะเดลก็ประมาณนี้เลยครับ คือความรู้สึกของคนที่รู้ข่าวว่าคนรักเก่าสมัยวัยเรียนจะกลับมาบ้านเกิด พร้อมกับชื่อเสียง ความสำเร็จ ความนิยม เขาก็แค่ But if by chance you’re here alone ถ้าบังเอิญว่าเธอมาคนเดียว Can I have a moment? Before we realized we were sad of getting old. ขอถ่ายรูปในแสงแบบนี้แหละ เผื่อว่านี่จะเป็นครั้งสุดท้ายที่เราจะยังเป็นเหมือนเดิมเป๊ะ ก่อนจะรู้ตัวว่าเราเสียใจที่แก่ตัวลง (แล้วไม่ได้ถ่ายรูปไว้)

อะเดลเขียนเพลงนี้ร่วมกับ โทไบอัส เจสโซ จูเนียร์ นักร้องนักแต่งเพลงชาวแคนาดา ในช่วงที่เธอกำลังทำอัลบั้มชุดที่สามที่ชื่อว่า 25 แล้วเกิดอาการตีบตันเขียนเพลงไม่ออก ซึ่งในทางหนึ่งก็เป็นผลดี เพราะทำให้เธอได้พบกับโทไบอัส และแต่งเพลงร่วมกันสองเพลง

ชีวิตจริงของคนเรา กว่าจะผ่านมาถึงวัยกลางคน แต่ละคนก็ล้วนเจออุปสรรคบาดเจ็บกันมาคนละแผลสองแผล บ้างก็เรื่องความรัก บ้างก็เรื่องพ่อแม่ เรื่องเพื่อน เรื่องการตัดสินใจบางอย่างผิดพลาด เรื่องเรียน เรื่องงาน มีทั้งนั้นแหละครับ

วันก่อนผมได้ยินอาจารย์ธันยวัชร์ ไชยตระกูลชัย พูดถึงคุณแจ็ค หม่า ในรายการที่ท่านจัด อาจารย์เล่าว่าก่อนที่แจ็ค หม่า จะยิ่งใหญ่กับอาลีบาบา เขาก็เป็นเด็กหนุ่มธรรมดา ๆ จากบ้านธรรมดา ๆ แถมยังเคยสอบเอนทรานซ์เข้ามหาวิทยาลัยพลาดถึง 3 ครั้ง

ในครั้งแรก เขาได้คะแนนคณิตศาสตร์น้อยเป็นประวัติการณ์คือ 1 คะแนน ใช่แล้ว คุณอ่านไม่ผิด หนึ่งคะแนนจากคะแนนเต็ม 120 นะครับ ไม่ใช่เต็มร้อย

ผมเคยดูคลิปที่เขาไปพูด ณ มหาวิทยาลัยแห่งหนึ่ง มีนักศึกษาลุกขึ้นถามว่าถ้าย้อนเวลากลับไปได้ เขาอยากกลับไปแก้ไขหรือเปลี่ยนแปลงอะไรบ้าง 

แจ็ค หม่า นิ่งคิดเพียงชั่วอึดใจ ก่อนจะพูดตอบสั้น ๆ ว่า “ไม่มี...ผมไม่คิดว่าผมอยากเปลี่ยนอะไร เพราะผมชอบชีวิตผมตอนนี้อยู่แล้ว” แปลว่าเขายอมรับสิ่งที่เกิดในอดีต และเชื่อว่านั่นคือสิ่งที่หล่อหลอมให้เขามาถึงวันนี้ 

หลายคนชอบพูดว่าช่วงเวลาที่ดีที่สุดในชีวิตคนเราคือช่วงที่เราเป็นวัยรุ่น วัยเรียนแต่ผมกลับคิดว่า ช่วงชีวิตที่ดีที่สุด ไม่จำเป็นต้องเป็นวัยเรียนหรอกครับ แต่คือทุกช่วงที่เรามีชีวิตอยู่ แล้วเราแค่... “พอใจ” กับช่วงเวลานั้น เท่านั้นเอง
