มีเพลงรักจำนวนมาก ที่หากมีเนื้อเพลงพูดถึงคนรักเก่าที่เลิกรากันไปแล้ว ความทรงจำ มักจะตกที่นั่งเป็นผู้ร้ายเสมอ เพราะความทรงจำมักจะทำให้เจ็บปวด ลืมเธอไม่ได้ คิดถึงคราใดฝันร้ายทุกคืน อะไรทำนองนั้น เอาเข้าจริงไม่ได้พูดแบบโลกสวย ผมอยากบอกว่า ในชีวิตจริงมันเลือกไม่ได้นะครับ ว่าใจเราจะจำอะไรหรือลืมใครไปเมื่อไหร่ เวลาไหน พูดแบบกำปั้นทุบดิน แต่เป็นความจริง คือ เวลาที่จิตคนเราจำอะไรได้ ก็เพราะมีเหตุให้เขา จำได้ ครั้นเวลาที่ลืม ก็เพราะหมดเหตุนั้นเลยจำไม่ได้

เหตุที่ว่า ก็ได้แก่การที่เราให้คุณค่าให้ราคากับสิ่งใดหรือใครคนนั้น ยิ่งเราให้คุณค่ากับสิ่งไหนมาก เราก็ยิ่งจำได้มาก อย่าแปลกใจที่แฟนบอลลิเวอร์พูล แมนยู อาร์เซนอล หรือแม้แต่ทีมที่ไม่ค่อยมีคนไทยเชียร์ทีมอื่น ๆ จะจำชื่อสิบเอ็ดตัวจริง บวกตัวสำรองของทีมที่ตัวเองรักได้หมด

บางคนจำได้กระทั่งว่า เป็นแชมป์ถ้วยไอติมกะทิกระทะอะไรก็ตามครั้งสุดท้ายปีไหน นักบอลคนแรกของทีมรักที่ตัวเองชอบ คือใคร ฯลฯ ส่วนทีมที่เราไม่ชอบ จะให้ไปนั่งจำชื่อ นักบอลทีมนั้นเกินสามคนครึ่งก็อาจจะเสียเวลาและเปลืองพื้นที่รอยหยักในสมอง ยกเว้นแต่เราจะมีอาชีพเป็นนักพากย์ฟุตบอล

เรื่องคนรักเก่าในชีวิตก็เช่นกัน ตราบใดที่ใจเรายังรู้สึกว่าเขายังมีคุณค่า แม้จะราคาน้ำอัดลมก็ตามที เป็นธรรมดาที่ใจจะไม่ลบความทรงจำเกี่ยวกับเขาทิ้งไป ส่วนว่าจะจำได้กี่มากน้อย ก็ค่อยไปว่ากันอีกที ที่อยากบอกก็คือ อย่าพยายามลืมใครเสียให้ยาก ถ้าคุณ ยังให้คุณค่า ราคา และน้ำหนักกับการมีอยู่ของคน ๆ นั้นบนโลกใบนี้

ตราบเมื่อคุณไม่ใส่ใจแล้ว ว่าเขาจะเป็นตายร้ายดีประการใด จะไปแต๊ดแต๊ดแต๋ อยู่บนซอกลืบไหนในโลกนี้นั่นแหละ จิตเขาจะลบความทรงจำเกี่ยวกับคนนั้นออกไปเอง หรือไม่ก็ต้องเป็นแบบเพลง Memories ของ Maroon 5 เพลงนี้ ที่พูดถึงความทรงจำว่าด้วยคนรักเก่าว่า
